#51 / Storytelling versus Knowledge-sharing
Hello my friend! 👋
This week has been very inspiring. After watching the product launches from Apple, Google, and OpenAI, I’ve gained a new perspective on my content creation. Apple and Google focus more on narrative and extensive packaging in their presentations, while OpenAI goes straight to the most important elements with no extra frills. I realized that my content creation could follow a similar approach.
Simply put, I can divide my videos or content into two categories. One category requires appropriate packaging, leaning more towards storytelling. This involves considering the shots, editing, and certain narrative techniques. The other category is “How to,” which quickly presents specific content. From this perspective, direct screen recording without adding unnecessary commentary is ideal. If a video can demonstrate a feature in one minute, then it should only be one minute long. This way, the content will be more valuable for both me and the audience.
With these two approaches in mind, I have a clearer understanding of my content creation. This is my takeaway from this week. Moving forward, I will explore these two directions further.
Here’re a few things I’d like to share with you today 🙂

New Strategy for Design Handover
Today, I tried a new tactic for a design handover. Before the official handover meeting, I messaged each developer attending the meeting individually, asking them to preview the designs and raise any questions in advance. This way, we could avoid a flood of questions during the meeting, which might leave me scrambling for answers. Turns out, this approach worked really well.
I got lost in the world of Cyberpunk 2077
After spending over two hours on “Cyberpunk 2077,” I’m absolutely blown away. The level of detail in Night City is incredibly rich–it feels like I’m Liu Lao Lao wandering into the Grand View Garden, just walking down the streets brings me joy. The last time I played an open-world game was probably with titles like GTA 5 or “Assassin’s Creed: Origins,” but “Cyberpunk” takes it to a whole new level.
Ruined By Design by Mike Monteiro
“Ruined By Design” is like a wake-up call in the form of a book for anyone in the design field. Mike Monteiro makes you question not just how you design but why. The main focus swings wildly but purposefully between ethical design practices, the societal impacts of design, and the personal responsibility of designers in today’s fast-evolving tech world. It’s basically a designer’s manual for navigating the muddy waters of modern ethical dilemmas.

How to rationalize my decision of buying the new iPhone
Instead of deciding what to buy based on how much I like something, or based on others' reviews, advertisements, or brand implications about the quality, I find it more reliable to base my investment of money and effort on how frequently and for how long I will use the item. For instance, a tool that I use every day deserves a bit more investment for a higher quality, whether it’s a digital tool or a physical one.
I used this reasoning to justify upgrading to the iPhone 15 Pro for myself.
